He also said (truthfully) that the wand would never be his, and that Voldemort would never be able to win. In the end, Voldemort kills Grindelwald via Avada Kedavra after deciding he doesn't need Grindelwald alive anymore.

Does Harry ever meet Newt : Despite the fact that Newt is still alive during the Harry Potter series, he never meets Harry (and thus readers never see him) because his life does not intersect with Harry's. Newt would have most likely already retired by the time Harry was introduced to the wizarding world.
